Five more swine flu deaths; toll reaches 111

Five more persons succumbed to H1N1 across the country taking the toll to 111 while 166 others tested positive for the viral disease on Thursday.

Three deaths were reported from Karnataka while one each was reported from Maharashtra and Gujarat.

In Gujarat, a 23-year-old pregnant woman succumbed to H1N1 at a hospital in Vadodara, taking the statewide toll to nine. Seven-month pregnant Bhavya Dave, who was admitted to SSG hospital on Saturday last, succumbed to H1N1 virus on Wednesday, hospital superintendent Atul Kumar Saxena said on Thursday.

Health Ministry Officials said a total of 166 fresh cases were reported from across the country on Thursday with Maharashtra topping the list with 43 and followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu (32 each).

The total number of infections has risen to 4,364.

In Uttarakhand, Rubina, a resident of Mussoorie who was admitted to Doon hospital on August 30 with suspected flu symptoms, died the same night due to H1N1, state health authorities said on Thursday. She died even as doctors administered flu medicines to her. Her test reports have confirmed that she died of swine flu, State nodal officer for Swine flu, Dr Pankaj Jain, said.
