The verdict in the June 1985 bombing of Air-India Flight 182 came on Thursday morning.

The two main accused in the case -- Ripudaman Singh Malik, 57 and Ajaib Singh Bagri, 55 -- who were tried in a Vancouver court in Canada, were acquitted.

While the verdict was described variously as 'disappointing' and 'shocking' by those who lost their loved ones in the bombing, Malik's and Bagri's families heaved a sigh of relief.

A statement read by Bagri's youngest daughter outside the court house said "it's time to begin" the process of healing.
