A day after Manoj Yadav, in his mid 20s, died while he was in custody in Newada and hundreds of people protested against it, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident.
Kumar has directed the state home secretary and ADG, police headquarters to inquire into the incident and submit a report soon, officials said.
Sensing trouble, district authorities have lodged FIR against five policemen following demands made by local MP, MLAs and residents.
Tension prevailed in Nawada on Monday. Also, what angered people was that police allegedly threw Yadav's body in a field after he died in police custody due to torture.

after Yadav's body was found by some locals, the news spread like wildfire and hundreds of angry people gathered outside the police station, attacked police vehicles, pelted stones at the superintendent of police and district magistrate's residence and set ablaze vehicles.
Hundreds of people blocked roads and demanded action against police officials responsible for Yadav's death.
Police fired in the air to disperse the mob. Authorities have banned the assembly of five or more people.
According to police, Yadav had been held on suspicion of involvement in a murder case four days ago and was taken to the police station for interrogation.
