Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Tuesday met the 35-year-old mother of two, Anshu Jamsenpa who achieved a unique feat by conquering the Mount Everest on two occasions within a span of 10 days – on May 12 and May 21 this year, at his official residence in New Delhi.

The president of Arunachal Mountaineering and Adventure Sports Association, Tsering Wange who accompanied Anshu, informed that the PM while lauding the feat of the brave Arunachalee woman assured financial grant from the PM's Relief Fund to help her wipe out her financial liabilities incurred during the Everest expedition.

The AMASA president requested the PM during the brief encounter to consider Anshu's name for either Arjun or Padma Shri award this year to send a positive message to those engaging in mountaineering and other adventure sports in the Northeastern region.

Mountaineer Anshu Jamsenpa of Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh has successfully climbed Mt Everest on May 12 (7 am) and again on May 21 2011 (5.05am).

She became the first mother in the world to climb Mt Everest twice in a span of 10 days. The prime minister in response, asked her to forward her bio-data to the PMO and to the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.

The mountaineer and AMASA president further requested the PM for opening of Arunachal Himalayas for mountain climbing and expeditions given that more than 1,000 km of virgin Himalayas is lying unexplored in Arunachal Pradesh.

Mountain peaks such as Kangto 7,090 metres, Nyegikansang 7,050 metres, Gorichen Main 6,488 metres, Gorichen East 6,200 metres, Chomo 6,000 metres, etc should be opened to civilian and foreign expedition teams immediately.

"Last year more than 100 peaks were opened for mountain expeditions in Ladhak region alone, so Arunachal Himalayas should also be opened immediately which share the same type of topography and borderline with neighboring counties," AMASA told the PM who assured to take it up with the appropriate authority for early consideration.

The PM was also requested to make Anshu a brand ambassador for 'Incredible India' campaign and or any other National/International sporting event.

Dr Singh in response promised to take up the matter with Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

When the AMASA suggested opening of Rural Tourism Training Centre in Arunachal Pradesh to develop and promote eco tourism and rural tourism in Northeastern States, the PM lauded the proposal and promised to route it through the Ministry of Tourism.
