Encounter between militants and security forces in Handwara

An encounter broke out on Tuesday morning between security forces and militants in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A joint team of the police and Army launched a search operation on information about the presence of 3 militants in Gunabadar village of Handwara, an Army spokesman said.

He said the militants fired at the search party around 6.45 am triggering an encounter.

The firing was still on when reports last came in, the spokesman said, adding there were no reports of causalities so far.
