Naveen Chawla tipped to be new EC

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Naveen Chawla is tipped to become election commissioner to fill the vacancy caused by retirement of Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishnamurthy.

Official sources said Chawla's name has been cleared for appointment asĀ EC

following the elevation of B B Tandon as CEC, which he will take over on Monday.

Chawla, who was to retire in June this year, will get a five-year tenure as election commissioner.

The retirement age of election commissioners is 65.
