The jailor and four other staffers of Lucknow jail were on Thursday suspended in connection with the mysterious death of Deputy Chief Medical Officer Y S Sachan, the main accused in CMO B P Singh murder case.

"The jailor, a deputy jailor, a head constable jail guard and two guards have been placed under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty," an official spokesman said. He said that based on the preliminary report, a departmental inquiry has also been ordered against the suspended staffers.

The main accused in the murder of CMO Singh, Sachan was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the Lucknow district jail hospital on Wednesday night after which the government ordered a judicial probe into the incident.

"According to jail superintendent B S Mukund and doctor V P Tripathi, Y S Sachan was found dead in the toilet of the hospital," Inspector General of Jail V K Gupta had said. "Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide and post-mortem is being conducted," Gupta said. Sachan was named in the CMO murder case as the main accused by police following the arrest of three persons by the Special Task Force on June 17.

Singh was shot dead by unidentified persons on the morning of April 2 when he had gone out for a walk. Sachan was arrested immediately after Singh's murder when the investigating agencies detected swindling of funds to the tune of several crore of rupees in the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission in Uttar Pradesh. Sachan's name was also linked to the murder of another CMO (Family Welfare) Vinod Kumar Arya who was shot dead in October last year.
