Brace yourself! Dragons are coming to India

July 29, 2006 12:58 IST

A film on dragons, which have appeared in myths and legends and have fascinated people across cultures, will be released in India on the Discovery Channel next week.

Announcing the programme, Discovery Associate Director Rajeev Bakshi said, "The dragon has appeared since ages in myths and legends of almost every world culture -- the Inuits, the Aztecs and the Chinese. Using stunning computer-generated imagery, we see dragons from the inside out."

The film Dragons: A fantasy made real shows how dragons would have evolved into a number of different species through the ages and around the globe, and how each dragon species was endowed with physical adaptations and behaviour specialised for its environment.

"In our story, dragons find a mate, raise young, protect their territory, and struggle to survive human encroachment, just as animals have done throughout history," he said.

The film also shows dragons coexisting with dinosaurs and how they fight for survival.

The graphics company that worked on Discovery Channel's Walking with Dinosaurs, Walking with Prehistoric Beasts and the Harry Potter movies, has done the special effects.
