Over a dozen people have lost their eyesight after undergoing free cataract surgery at a camp organized by an NGO in Bihar’s Saharsa district.

“A total of 48 people of Bangaon village were operated upon for removal of cataract at Saharsa Sadar hospital. At least 15 people have lost their vision due to infection,” a district health official said.

The camp was organized by Madhepura-based NGO named Balbhadr Smiriti Sewa Sansthan in February last.

“Most of those who lost vision complained of pain in their eye post surgery and gradually lost vision,” another district official said.

District authorities have ordered a probe into it.
