Slain gangster Kiran Keshav Dokre's body is stuck at Mumbai airport for lack of official documents, sources said.

The body was flown to Mumbai from Malaysia on Wednesday.

Malaysian police found the body on May 22. Authorities had tentatively identified the body as that of Suresh Krishnakant Sharma, but later began checking if he may actually be Dokre. The official confirmation came on Wednesday.

Dokre was a close aide of gangster Chhota Rajan and was helping his operations in Mumbai. He was said to be high on the Mumbai police's wanted list in connection with 43 criminal cases, including the killing of Nepalese lawmaker Mirza Dilshad in 1998.

Police sources in Mumbai said on Thursday that Malaysian police had sent his body without his fake passport and other documents. "Mumbai police will not accept his body without the documents," sources said.

Dokre's family friend Vilas Vilankar went to Malaysia to claim the custody of his dead body.
