DMK will stand by Raja, says Karunanidhi

Backing his party colleague A Raja, prime accused in 2G spectrum scam, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi on Tuesday expressed happiness over his securing bail.

"All in DMK support Raja," Karunanidhi said, hours after a Delhi court granted bail to the former Union telecom minister.

Talking to reporters at his Gopalapuram residence in Chennai, the DMK patriarch said Raja securing bail gave him happiness.

To a question if Raja would be involved in active politics, he said all his partymen had been in active politics and so would be the case with Raja.

Asked whether he would visit Delhi to see his party colleague, Karunanidhi said, "If I get a chance, I will visit Delhi to see Raja."

He refused to comment on his arch rival and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's remarks expressing fears of the case being diluted in the wake of Raja being granted bail.

Granting bail to Raja, the court has imposed several conditions on his movement including a ban on his visit to his home state of Tamil Nadu or the Department of Telecom which he had presided over as a minister for over three years.

To a question on completion of one year of AIADMK's rule on Wednesday, he alleged it had been a "dark period" and the people were "waiting for a dawn".
