DMK to relieve Raja of organisational posts

December 04, 2010 04:03 IST
Tainted former Telecom minister A Raja and Kanimozhi, daughter of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief MK Karunanidhi, who featured prominently in the taped conversations that corporate lobbyist Niira Radia  had are being relieved from the DMK's organisational positions in the wake of allegations on 2G corruption and their frequent conversations and "unauthorised claims " on the DMK's participation in Union Cabinet in 2009.

The DMK is expected to announce its decision early next week.

A Raja is propaganda Secretary while Kanimozhi is convenor of the DMK Womens Cell. They directly report to K Anbhazhagan, DMK general secretary.

The DMK has taken the Nira Radia tape issue  seriously according to a highly placed source.

This is the least action that the DMK can take for  the time being, which helps its to send a message to the people, but is also a major signal to the All India Congress Committee to continue the DMK-Congress alliance in the April 2011
state assembly elections.

Due to his fragile health, according to source, Karunanidhi gets emotional and irritated when he was told about the controversial tapes. Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi Maran spent two hours with Karunanidhi recently. Similarly MK Alagiri and MK Stalin both spent more than six hours with their father.

Among the major decisions taken by the DMK  top brass is one to distance itself from A Raja.

Raja will also be asked by the party to maintain a low profile and not speak to the media till the assembly polls are over.
