Disconnect with the people led to defeat: Delhi CM's son

April 17, 2012 18:37 IST

Sandeep Dikshit, Congress Member of Parliament and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's son, on Tuesday attributed his party's defeat in the Delhi civic polls to a disconnect between the party and the people.

He also claimed that an environment was created by reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General and the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare that made people believe the Congress was at the "centre of all the wrong" that was happening.

"We tried our best to keep the issues local and focused on MCD whereas the BJP, because of the overall general climate that was there in the country and in Delhi, focussed on price rise and the 2G spectrum scam," the East Delhi MP said.

"We have taken a lot of proactive steps but somewhere, the communication between us and the people has broken down in the last one and half to two years. I think we need to reestablish it," he said.

He claimed the party has taken steps to control inflation but it failed to convey it to the people.

Sandeep said the Congress has taken various steps to "contain dishonesty and we are the only party which has gone ahead and ensured that whoever is found guilty would be punished."
