The All India Congress Committee and Digvijay Singh again appeared to be not on the same page -- this time on the issue of seeking cooperation from Team Anna over exposing some of the dealings of two Gujarat businessmen allegedly close to the Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the state.
The AICC general secretary wrote a letter to Anna Hazare seeking his cooperation for getting answers to questions raised by the party related to assets and Income-Tax raids on businessmen Dilip Suryavanshi and Sudhir Sharma, who are said to be close to the ruling BJP in the state.
Hours later, party spokesperson Manish Tewari said, "The Congress does not fight its political battle with the crutches of others."
Tewari's response, however, was in reply to a question on whether Congress was happy with the fact that Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal was also taking on Modi government now.
Kejriwal is in Ahmedabad to support an agitation against allotment of community grazing land at Lavad village in Gandhinagar for the Gujarat government's proposed Raksha Shakti University.
Tewari said, "Whatever we have to say against the Gujarat government, we say it from here or our state unit does it there."
Last week, the AICC had snubbed Digvijay Singh stating that he is not authorized to speak on the behalf of the party after, the AICC general secretary attacked Mamata Banerjee in a series of interviews.
Singh's criticism of Banerjee had come at a time when the Congress has been going the extra mile to keep the TMC supremo in good humour and renewed it efforts to get her support for Pranab Mukherjee's financial candidature.
Singh had, however, made light of the snub saying it is correct that he is 'not the spokesperson' of the party.
Tewari's statement today came on a day, when Singh in his letter to Anna, said since the Gandhian was fighting against corruption, he and his team should help in getting their answers from the Gujarat government.
