Unidentified men on Thursday night hurled two home-made bombs at the residence of Bangladesh Chief Justice A B M Khairul Haque's at posh Minto road in Dhaka.

"Unidentified persons hurled two home-made bombs from the Hare Road side of the residence and then quickly fled away," Deputy Commissioner of Police Krishnapada Roy told PTI.

Roy said no one was injured in the attack which took place about 20 yards away from the western side of the residence.

The police suspect that the bombs had been lobbed from a running car. He said the security guards could not spot anyone on the streets although they had run out immediately after the explosion.

Roy said an investigation was immediately launched into the incident and senior police and elite anti-crime Rapid Action Battalion officials visited the scene.

Haque took over as the chief justice two months ago. His appellate division of the supreme court is said to hear a petition of main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief Khaleda Zia's on her posh cantonment residence on November 29.

Zia was evicted from the house inside the Dhaka cantonment three days ago in line with a high court verdict last month validating an earlier government order asking her to vacate the house.

The cabinet last year scrapped a controversial lease agreement offering Zia the house 29 years ago.
