August 21, 2010 10:06 IST

The water level of Yamuna river has crossed the danger level due to incessant rains in the last three days in New Delhi, forcing the government to evacuate people living in low-lying areas along its bank.

The river crossed the danger level of 204.83 metres on Friday evening and now it is flowing 11 cm above the danger mark, a senior official said.

Some families living in low-lying areas in east Delhi have been evacuated. If required, relief camps will be set up to provide shelter to the affected people, the official said.
