Has the US opened a Pandora's box?

Since Monday, visitors arriving in the United States by air and sea are being fingerprinted and photographed as part of the Homeland Security Department's new biometric surveillance to prevent terrorists from sneaking into the country.

Is the US justified in taking such a step?

Brazil does not think so and retaliated by insisting on photographs and fingerprints of all Americans entering the country.

Should other countries follow suit?
