A group of dance bar owners have challenged the Maharashtra government's ban on the bars in the Bombay high court.

Aahar, the group of dance bar owners, in its petition, pointed out that the implementation of the Mumbai Police (Amendment) Bill, 2005, has rendered around 10 lakh persons unemployed, Manjit Singh Abrol, representing Aahar, said.

The petition would come up for hearing on Wednesday on its admission, Abrol said.

The ban on dance bars came into effect from August 14.

Also, the Dance Bars Association and Bhartiya Bar Girls Union would file separate petitions in the Bombay high court challenging the state government's ban, president of the Bar Girls Union Varsha Kale said.

The Bill provides for a ban on "holding of a performance of dance, of any kind, in an eating houses, permit rooms or beer bars."
