Exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama underwent a gall bladder surgery on Friday at Sir Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi.

The 73-year-old Nobel laureate was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after he complained of severe abdominal pain.

The temporal head of Tibetans underwent a laproscopic surgery to remove stones in the gallbladder, Cenzin Chalka, spokesperson of the Tibetan Government in exile told PTI, adding that he is likely to be discharged in a day or two.

The Buddhist leader had arrived in Delhi earlier this week for a routine medical check-up.

He had undergone treatment earlier at Mumbai's Lilawati hospital for abdominal discomfort.
