India's Dev Suman Sindhu has been elected as chairman of the Commonwealth Youth Caucus, at a meeting of the body held at Botswana recently.

"This is the first time that an Indian has been elected to the post," Sports Minister Vikram Verma told reporters in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Malaysia's candidate for the post was defeated by a 26-6 margin, Verma said.

The body is mainly involved with promoting and monitoring youth activity in the Commonwealth region.
