Curfew in ethnic violence-hit Karbi Anglong district was relaxed on Thursday for six hours from 8 am and the situation was 'tense but under control', with no untoward incident reported so far, official sources said.
Union Minister of State for Home, Sriprakash Jaiswal, was scheduled to visit the district later on Thursday to review the law and order situation in the strife-torn areas.
Assam minister Rockybul Hussain will accompany the Union minister and apprise him of the latest situation and deployment of forces in the district.
A high-level delegation, comprising two joint secretaries in charge of Border Management and North East Affairs, was also scheduled to accompany the Union minister, sources said.
No fresh violence was reported since Wednesday and the indefinite curfew imposed since Monday was relaxed for six hours from 8 am to 2 pm.
Additional battalions of Army and Central Reserve Police Force have reached the district and was patrolling the affected areas, the sources said.
Shoot-at-sight orders will continue in the district during the curfew period.
Seven bodies of people, suspected to have been killed on Monday, were recovered on Wednesday, taking the death toll in the hill district to 77. Thousands of houses have been burnt since the ethnic clash between the Karbis and Dimasas began on September 26.
