A senior police officer said 20-year old Fida Nabi Lone, who had been critically wounded on August 3 in the Shelteng area of Srinagar died in the Soura Medical Institute on Sunday night despite best efforts of the doctors who had put him on the life-support system after a surgery.
The body was handed over to his relatives and the burial happened during the night. The violence has claimed 50 lives sinceĀ June 11.
Fearing trouble, authorities imposed an indefinite curfew and deployed police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force troopers in full riot gear to enforce the curfew in Srinagar on Monday morning. Curfew-like-restrictions have also been imposed in Anantnag, Pulwama and Kakpora.
In the Delina village of Baramulla district located on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, security forces chased away stone pelting protestors on Sunday morning. The mobs pelted stones at passing vehicles of the police.
Hardline separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani had also called for a protest shutdown on Monday. The group had asked the people to resume normal life for a day yesterday and buy essentials for another week of protests and shutdowns. Shops, businesses, traffic functioned normally on Sunday.
