A CRPF jawan was killed and another injured in a gun-fight with Naxals on Tuesday in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district.
The skirmish took place near Guttum village forests under Basaguda police station limits when the paramilitary forces were carrying out a search operation in the region, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI.
A squad of CRPF's 168th battalion was carrying out the combing operation in Basaguda.
When they reached near Timapur village, a group of armed cadre opened indiscriminate fire on the security personnel, leaving two of them injured, the ASP said.
However, the Naxals fled to the forests when jawans retaliated, he added.
"Constable Sunil Ram succumbed to his injuries while being taken out of the jungle and the other injured constable Dharmendar Singh Bhadoria was being airlifted to the state capital - Raipur for treatment," he said.
Following the incident, additional forces have been rushed to the spot, the officer said, adding, a manhunt has been launched to nab the attackers.
