A Mumbai court on Thursday extended the police custody of two suspected Indian Mujahideen operatives, arrested in connection with July 13 triple blasts, till February 10 after Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad sought to probe into the source of explosive materials and possible future terror targets.
As their custody ended on Thursday, the two arrested accused Naqi Ahmed Wasi Ahmed Sheikh, 22, and Nadeem Akhtar Ashfaq Sheikh, 23, originally from Bihar's Darbhanga district, were produced before the court which extended their custody by eight days.
Seeking extension, ATS told the court that it wanted to investigate the source of the explosives and various other materials and also about the role of the duo in channelizing the hawala money used to engineer the triple explosions that killed 27 people.
"The accused also used to shuttle between Darbhanga of Bihar and Delhi very often," the ATS told the court stating the agency wanted to grill them to ascertain their intentions for the visits.
The two had stayed in Mumbai even after the blasts, the ATS said.
"Their modus operandi is to stay at a place, plan terror attack and execute it. Since the two continued to stay here even after the blasts, their further custody is required to know if they had planned further strikes. If yes, then what are their targets?," ATS said.
