Cops let jailed gangster visit home on way to court

In a clear violation of rules, Satish Pandey, a notorious gangster who is currently lodged in Chapra jail, was allowed to visit his house on his way to a court by the escorting police team. M I Khan reports.

Satish Pandey,who is accused in over 50 criminal cases, including murder, kidnapping and extortion, currently lodged in Chapra jail in Saran district was allowed by police team to visit his house to meet family members on way to appear in the court in neighbouring Gopalganj district, a police official said.

A district official said that Pandey spent hours in his house and his police escorts stood outside thanks to his political clout: he is the elder brother of ruling Janata Dal-United Member of Legislative Assembly Amarendra Pandey.

After it was reported that Pandey was allowed to visit his home on way to the court, Saran Deputy Inspector General Alok Kumar suspended all eight police escorts.

"We have suspended all policemen on duty and issued a show cause to them.

"Kumar said. Kumar said that he had ordered a probe into the matter by a sub divisional police officer.

This is not the first time that Pandey has used his political clout to visit his house despite being incarcerated. In the past, he has even attended marriage functions and other events.

Other cases

In October this year, Munna Shukhla a jailed former legislator of the JD-U, was seen distributing pamphlets in Muzaffarpur court premises to mobilise support for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Adhikar rally.

Another jailed former JD-U Member of Parliament Anand Mohan Singh, Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, and former RJD MP Pappu Yadav hit the headlines for holding durbars inside the jail and threatening the jail staff.

They were also found to have visited people's homes outside the jail on their way back from court hearings.
