At least three police officers are feared dead and several others wounded near a shopping centre after a shooting in Baton Rouge, in the United States. The victims may include police officers and sheriff’s deputies.
“There is still an active scene. They are investigating,” he said. “Right now we are trying to get our arms around everything,” Kip Holden, mayor-president of East Baton Rouge Parish told KTLA.
Live news showed about 20 police officers wearing bulletproof vests near the scene and a helicopter flying overhead.
Sgt. Don Coppola with the Baton Rouge police department told Nola thatthe wounded officers were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Their conditions, as well as the total number of officers shot, were not immediately available.
He was unsure whether the wounded officers are all members of the police department. The police have closed down several roads and are still hunting for the gunman, says NY.
No other details were immediately available.
