Former Congress Member of Legislative Assembly Sambhajirao Kunjir was beaten up by party workers belonging to the rival faction during the elections for the post of the Pune district Congress.

It was a free-for-all in the Congress bhavan when workers, allegedly belonging to the Sanjay Jagtap group hailing from Punandar taluk, attacked Kunjir by hurling chairs at him.

The scuffle broke out when efforts were being made to elect the party's Pune district president unanimously.

Kunjir later alleged that the attack on him was 'pre-meditated' but refused to lodge a police complaint in the matter, saying it was for the party to initiate action against those responsible for the unruly behaviour.
