Congress MLA Mateen Ahmed will be the pro-tem speaker of Delhi assembly, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Tuesday.
"Mateen Ahmed is the pro-tem speaker. We had earlier proposed Jagdish Mukhi's name for pro-tem speaker. It is the tradition and rule that the senior most leader in the House becomes the pro-tem speaker.
"But he refused and said no BJP member would accept the post. JD (U)’s Shoaib Iqbal also refused it”, Kejriwal told reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Pro-tem speaker will perform the duties from the commencement of the first meeting of the assembly until the new Speaker is elected. The assembly session begins from Wednesday.
