Congress dumps dynasty politics in Karnataka

The Congress party in Karnataka seems to have avoided dynasty politics in the selection of candidates for the forthcoming assembly elections.

Several aspirants who are sons and daughters of senior Congress leaders have been kept out of the first list of candidates.

The Congress, which faced immense rebellion, finally managed to put out a list of 177 candidates.

The Congress high command chose to ignore the likes of Ajay Singh, son of former state chief minister Dharam Singh, Priyank Kharge, son of Union minister Mallikarjun Kharge and Roopa, daughter of Union minister K H Muniyappa.

The candidates have been evenly distributed among all castes.

There is equal representation of all major castes in Karnataka.

The Congress has included 8 women candidates in the list.

Congress legislative party leader Siddaramaiah has been fielded from Varuna constituency.
