Delhi on Sunday expereinced its coldest day in over 70 years with the minimum temperature dipping to 0.2º Celsius.
The minimum temperature was seven degrees below normal and the maximum was 18.7º C, two degrees below normal.
The minimum temperature touched the lowest at 0830 IST, the Met department said. The previous minimum temperature of -0.6º C was recorded on January 10, 1935.
However, there was no fog and no delays in air and road traffic. All international and domestic flights operated on schedule, airport sources said. The Runway Visibility Range was 800 metres, they said.
A Northern Railways press release said seven trains were rescheduled or cancelled. They are Kalindi Express, Unchar Express, Lal Quila Express, Toofan Express, Jharkhand Express, Magadh Express and Rewa Express. Several trains are also running behind schedule, it said.
Weathermen, meanwhile, forecast minimum temperature to be around 3º C. Mercury has been on the lower side for last couple of days due to strong winds from the northern plains, which is in the grip of the severe cold wave.
The minimum temperature dipped to -2º C in Srinagar on Saturday night where the famous Dal Lake almost froze, raising the possibility of the famous lake freezing completely only for the third time after 1964 and 1986.
Meanwhile, The Delhi government directed all primary schools, both government and private, to remain closed till Wednesday.
