Cold wave kills 4 in Uttar Pradesh, toll climbs to 123

Four more persons died due to severe cold wave in different parts of Uttar Pradesh, taking the toll in the state this winter to 123. One person each died in Allahabad, Kaushambi, Lalitpur and Siddharth Nagar due to cold conditions since Thursday, officials said on Friday.

Though cold conditions persisted in most parts of the state, a bright sun came out in the morning, giving some respite to the people from the biting cold.

With 4.0 degree Celsius, which was five notches below normal, Sultanpur was the coldest in the state, while state capital Lucknow recorded a minimum of 4.6 degrees Celsius on Friday morning, which was four notches below normal.

Varanasi recorded a low of 7.6 degree Celsius, which was normal, Kanpur recorded 6.4 degree Celsius, which was two notches below normal, while the minimum temperature in Allahabad settled at 9.8 Celsius, one degrees above normal.

In Gorakhpur, the temperature was 5.8 degree Celsius, three degrees below normal.
