Last updated on: April 10, 2005 20:10 IST

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Sunday proposed close cooperation between India and China in the Information Technology sector and said the two countries could together be the world leaders in the industry.

On an IT-focussed visit to Bangalore, Wen said, "I strongly believe that if we join hands together, we will certainly be able to set a new trail in the IT business world."

India had the advantage in software and China in hardware, he said while interacting with the executives of India's biggest software exporter, Tata Consultancy Services, at the company's Bangalore facility.

The Chinese leader also observed that the Indian software industry was taking an important position in the world and China, in recent years, had also made rapid progress in the IT industry.

"If we believe that the development of the IT industry symbolises the future of science and technology and the economy, then the cooperation between our countries to develop the IT industry will symbolise the prosperity of the two nations in future," he said.
