Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and the state chief minister, Omar Abdullah Wednesday jointly reviewed the prevailing law and order and security situation at a high level meeting of officers on Wednesday evening.
Chidambaram took the meeting in which various issues relating to the subject were discussed in detail. Union minister of state for home, Jatinder Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani, State Chief Secretary and director general of police attended the meeting.
Chidambaram flew to the border town of Kargil and inaugurated the workshop of 'Jashn-e-Kashmir', a mega project to impart training to youth of Jammu and Kashmir in the folk culture and art of the state.
He said the state's cultural diversity is rich and its nurturing among the young generation needs focused attention.
The home minister said Jashn-e-Kashmir project would prove to be a boon in this direction. He also thanked the people for the welcome accorded to him in Kargil describing the land most beautiful and the people hospitable.
Ministry of culture, government of India in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir state has taken up this project to encourage folk culture and art of Jammu and Kashmir and popularise it within the country.
