Chidambaram chairs security meet in Srinagar

Union Home minister P Chidambaram chaired a high level security meeting in summer capital Srinagar on Tuesday. The minister, who arrived here on Monday, chaired the meeting of the unified headquarters in Srinagar which was attended by state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, senior officials of the civil, Army, police, paramilitary forces, and various intelligence agencies.

Chidambaram reviewed the overall law and order situation in the state. He also congratulated the chief minister and his government for the smooth conclusion of the Panchayat elections in the state. Later, Chidambaram reviewed the security arrangements made for this year's Amarnath Yatra at Pahalgam.

He interacted with many locals and tourists at the local bus stand in Pahalgam where some enthusiastic tourists requested the home minister for a few photographs with them.The home minister is spending the night at a government hut in Pahalgam which has been done especially for his stay in the hill station.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also hosted a dinner at Pahalgam on Tuesday evening for the home minister.

Chidambaram will do an aerial survey of the mountainous route to  the Amarnath Cave shrine on Wednesday, after which he will go the Gurez sector of the Line of Control where the paramilitary Border Security Force has arranged a function at the Neeru post for the home minister.
