A 24-year old IT woman employee, who went missing last week, was on Saturday found dead near her office premises on the outskirts of Chennai.

Uma Maheswari, a native of Salem district, was living in Medavakkam and was working with the Tata Consultancy Services at Siruseri near Chennai since February 2013, police said.

The body has been sent to government hospital at Chengalpet in Kancheepuram district, they said, adding inquiry was on into the cause of death.

"My daughter was working with the private company after she got a placement there. She went missing since last one week and we filed a complaint with the police. Now, we got information that her body has been found," said Balasubramani, father of the deceased girl.

Police said that there was no sign of any struggle on her body.

Maheshwari had not travelled on her cab on February 13, which she regularly does, and her mobile phone remained switched off since then, police said.

Meanwhile, TCS in a statement said, "Uma Maheswari was with TCS since February 2013, she was well liked by her colleagues and was someone her team leader could depend on."

"This shocking incident is a sad reminder of the safety and security risks women face today and as an organisation we are working with our employees to continuously strengthen our security measures," it added.
