Zubair Khan, an alleged spy arrested in New Delhi on charges of supplying army secrets to an 'agent' in the Pakistan High Commission, also used to pass information about government officials, journalists and others visiting Pakistan, the Delhi police has said in its chargesheet.
The chargesheet has been filed by the crime branch in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vidya Prakash.
The probe agency has said that 37-year-old Zubair, a resident of Jamia Nagar in south Delhi, used to procure secret information and documents relating to Indian army, other government departments and related officials and hand it over to one Alvi, whom he had met in Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
The police said that probe has revealed that a person named Shaahid had given him the documents and photographs and he was to hand them over to Alvi.
Alvi used to contact Zubair on his mobile phone and send via SMS personal details like names and addresses of ministry officials, journalists and students who would be visiting Pakistan and get their report after due inquiry.
Zubair, a native of Kakrala village in Uttar Pradesh, was apprehended from near parking gate of Kalindi Kunj Park in New Delhi on July 17 by the anti-extortion cell of crime branch on basis of secret information.
The agency said Zubair was arrested while he was waiting for Alvi and the documents recovered from his possession were five photographs of the Indian Army area and a signboard giving out details of army units deployed in Delhi.
Also, recovered from him were three printed papers containing army related telephone numbers and addresses, details of army formations, their commanders, location and telephone numbers.
Zubair, who is currently in judicial custody, has been chargesheeted under section 3 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act relating to spying and section 120B IPC (criminal conspiracy).
The SMSes from various mobile phones used by Zubair showed details of various journalists, and others including an Indian airlines director and other employee and also doctors who had gone to Pakistan on official tour or visits or had applied for VISA.
Police has said in the chargesheet that Alvi used to send these details to Zubair who used to inquire about them and report back to him.
The court has taken cognisance of the matter and fixed it for scrutiny of documents for October 31.
