Police on Saturday filed a chargesheet against B I S Chahal, media advisor to former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, and four of his relatives for attempt to murder while allegedly trying to grab land at a village here in October 2006.

It was filed in the court of Judicial Magistrate Harinder Singh Sidhu who adjourned the case to August 14 for scrutiny of documents.

Others named in the case are the father-in-law of Chahal's son Kartar Singh, Jagdish Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Jaswinder Pal Singh (Kartar Singh's sons) and one Harjinder Singh.

The police have a list of 23 witnesses, including four official gunmen of Kartar Singh, of the incident, which took place on October 23, 2006.

The chargesheet, based on the complaint of Harchand Singh of Dadh village in this district, said the men went to grab land in the village and fired shots when the people there resisted.

Chahal was arrested on June 10 when he came to Ludhiana to appear before the Vigilance Bureau probing the Ludhiana City Centre scam in which he is one of the 19 accused.

Chahal was produced before the court along with other accused this evening and taken back to Patiala under tight security.
