Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has appealed to the people to maintain communal harmony and peace, in the wake of the verdict of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court in the Ayodhya title suit.

Mayawati told a press conference on Thursday evening that the state government has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on implementation of the high court's order.

Washing her hands off the entire issue, the Uttar Pradesh CM said, "The entire responsibility of implementation of the high court's order in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue lies with the Centre."

"If any attempt is made to disturb peace in the state, strict action will be taken by the state government against such elements," she said.
