Maintaining that the Centre had given him an assurance over formation of separate Telangana state after the Vice Presidential poll, Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday said if the demand is not met, the agitation for separate statehood would be stepped up.

"The prime minister had asked us to let peaceful atmosphere prevail (in Andhra Pradesh) for the Centre to take a decision (on Telangana issue). So, we are waiting patiently. We have to be patient. We got an assurance over formation of Telangana after the vice presidential poll. If they give Telangana, fine. Otherwise, we will continue fighting for it," he said while addressing a gathering at Nizamabad today.

The TRS president has all along been saying that he has got "signals" about the formation of Telangana from Delhi. However, Congress MPs from Telangana have said they did not get any such "signals" from the party leadership.
