Dissatisfied with the ongoing CID probe, family of a girl, who committed suicide after her marriage with the son of a senior police officer did not materialise due to the latter's opposition, is preparing to move the high court seeking a CBI investigation into the case.
"Papers are being readied to file a writ in Himachal Pradesh High Court soon for CBI probe into the suicide of Ritu Kalmotia," the victim's father Sampoorna Singh told PTI on Friday.
Singh, an ex-serviceman, said we have no faith in the CID probe ordered by the state government into the incident.
"I met chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal yesterday and urged him to order CBI investigation into the case," said.
The victim's maternal uncle Subhash Chander said CID investigation was nothing but a "waste of time".
"How come an IG will rigorously question a police officer of his own rank...it's an eyewash," he added.
IG (CID) O C Thakur is currently probing the case.
27-year-old Ritu Kalmotia, a teacher in a private B-ED college in Shimla had hanged herself at her house in Tutu area on Sunday last after her marriage with Siddarth Sarpal, a sub-judge and son of Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Pardeep Kumar Sarpal, was turned down by the senior police officer.
An FIR has been registered against IG, his wife and son with Boileaganj police station charging them with abetment to suicide and destroying evidence.
Seeing sensitivity of the case, state police chief G S Gill transfered the case from district police to CID.
Meanwhile, the DG refuted reports in a section of the media that the boy's father, an IG, has been asked to go on leave till the duration of the probe.
"No such order (sending the IG on leave till probe period) has been given," DGP Gill told PTI.
Contacted, IG Pardeep Kumar Sarpal also refuted reports about his being sent on leave and said he was prepared for any kind of investigation into the case and would extend all cooperation to the CID probe team.
