CBI officers who probed 2G, CWG scams awarded President's medal

Central Bureau of Investigation officers who probed cases like 2G, CWG scam and horse trading in Jharkhand Rajya Sabha elections are among the 28 from the agency awarded with prestigious the president's police medal for distinguished service and police medal for meritorious service on Republic Day.

Leading the list of winners of President's police medal for distinguished service is Joint Director Amrendra Kumar Singh who led several high profile investigations including into alleged corruption in Bokaro Steel Plant, SAIL appointments and horse trading allegations in Jharkhand Rajya Sabha elections.

Ghanshyam Updahyay, an Indian Police Service of Odisha cadre of 1999 batch, who was probing several corruption cases in the Commonwealth Games scam and also investigated several complex special crimes has been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

Sanjay Kumar Sinha, who burnt the midnight oil in probing complex 2G Spectrum Telecom scam allegedly involving former telecom minister A Raja, has been given the police medal for meritorious service.

Other officers given the president's medal include the Superintendent of Police at Chennai Sivagnanam Vellaipandi, Additional Superintendents of Police N Krishnamurthy and Rajiv Dwivedi posted here and Deputy Superintendent of Police Suman Kumar in Mumbai.

Those conferred the police medal for meritorious service include IPS officers Rajkumar Maruti Vhatkar posted as DIG in ACB, Mumbai, Deepika Suri, Deputy Director Deepika Suri and Ghanshyam Upadhyay, posted as DIG at the covert special unit of the agency.

Additional SP Gajanand Bairwa also posted at ACB in New Delhi Deputy Superintendents of Police Vipin Kumar Verma, Jagdish, Ayyadurai Lazaras, Ram Avtar Yadav, Satish Kumar Rathi, Anil Kumar Yadav and Rajiv Kumar have also been given the medal.
