CBI can't save Cong in Gujarat, says upbeat Modi

September 17, 2010 20:50 IST

Warning the CBI that it won't be able to save Congress in Gujarat, state Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said a day will also come when there would be nobody to save the central agency.

"They thought that Modi will be frightened by CBI. There was CBI everywhere in the newspapers and news channels speculating that Modi would go to jail today... tomorrow," Modi said during a public function held in Kathlal Assembly constituency which the BJP won in by-election today, breaking into the age old Congress bastion.

"I want the CBI to hear carefully, it won't be able to save the Congress party. And a day will come when even there would be no one to save the CBI itself. There is no place for liars in Gujarat which is the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel," Modi who is celebrating his 61st birthday today said.

People of Kathlal have made the Congress and CBI bite the dust by voting in favour of BJP, he said.

Modi said the BJP's victory in Kathlal by elections is an eye-opener for Congress leaders in Delhi who thought this election would be an easy sailing for them since their party is ruling in the Centre.

"Some (Congressmen) thought that people will forget about inflation...people won't say anything now, won't be angry about rising prices of essential commodities," he said.

Modi's remarks assume significance as his close aide and former minister Amit Shah has been arrested by CBI in Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
