Cannibal was looking for another victim

December 08, 2003 19:05 IST

A German man accused of murdering and eating his 'willing' victim was looking for another person to eat when he was arrested, report agencies.

Armin Meiwes, 42, told a court in Kassel, Germany, today that he was using the Internet to search for someone willing to share the remains of Bernd-Juergen Brandes, 43, and become his second victim.

Earlier, the jurors, judges, prosecution, defence lawyers and some experts sat through a two-hour video found at Meiwe's residence, which showed the former soldier stabbing, decapitating, and devouring Brandes.

'The shocking videotape shows Brandes apparently willingly having his penis cut off. Both attempted to eat it later, but found it "too tough" because Brandes had begun to feel so faint he could not wait for it to be fully cooked -- in garlic, salt and pepper -- before beginning,' reports The Scotsman.

Meiwes told the court he was 'very disappointed' with Brandes, a homosexual he had found on Internet chat sites, because he had lied about his age (claiming to be 36 when he was actually 42) and was unwilling to try to get to know Meiwes better before being killed and eaten.

'I saw the killing as helping him, helping him to die, helping him to kill himself,' said Meiwes.

He then claimed to have emailed a friend, saying, 'I hope I will soon find another victim, the flesh has almost all gone.'

His plan was to share the remaining portions of his first victim -- which the police found in his freezer labelled 'steak', 'ham' and 'stew meat' -- with the new victim before killing and eating him too, Meiwes said.
