Police begin call centre leak probe

Police on Saturday began investigation into the reported leakage of financial information about clients in the UK by a call centre in Gurgaon.

The inquiry has begun even as the police was yet to receive any complaint into the alleged leakage by an employee of Indian BPO Infinity E-Search.

"We have begun the inquiry on the basis of newspaper reports," Gurgaon Superintendent of Police Yogender Nehra told PTI without elaborating.

Police sources said several employees of the company had been questioned regarding the leakage.

The employee Karan Bahri, who is under a cloud of suspicion, is missing since the report appeared in a London tabloid The Sun two days back.

The paper had claimed that its undercover reporter was sold top secret information on 1,000 accounts and numbers of passports and credit cards for about 2,750 pounds and was asked for another 275 pounds later (approximately a total of Rs 2.5 lakh).

The company on Friday said it neither handled any financial information nor had accounts of a British bank.

Distancing itself from the controversy, Infinity Managing Director Rahul Dutt said at a press conference, "We have no bank clients in UK."

London Police also has begun inquiry into the case but since it has limitations of jurisdiction, the Gurgaon police has been involved.
