A Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Patna high court on Saturday against Bihar Governor Buta Singh for writing a recommendatory letter seeking favour for two railway official to Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Buta's letter sparks off controversy
The petitioner, a lawyer, filed a petition against Buta Singh for violating constitutional duty. "I had filed a PIL in the court against Buta Singh for writing the recommendatory letter seeking favour, which is an act of violation of the oath taken by him" the petitioner said.
Last week when Buta Singh's letter to Lalu Prasad was leaked in media, it started a controversy in political circles.
Bharatiya Janata Party, Janata Dal-United, Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist not only criticised him, but also demanded his removal.
After NDA, CPI demands recall of Buta Singh
BJP-led National Democratic Alliance in Lok Sabha raised this issue and sought his removal alleging that he had "interfered" in the functioning of the Railway Ministry.
Buta Singh, in his letter had recommended posting the chief materials manager (South Eastern Railway), Vijay P Meshram, as controller of stores of central railway.
However, Buta Singh said on last Thursday that he saw nothing wrong in writing a recomendatory letter seeking favour for a dalit railway official.
