India has protested against the 'pre-mediated and pre-planned' killing of Border Security Force Assistant Commandant Jeewan Kumar by the Bangladesh Rifles on April 16.

India has warned Dhaka that the repercussions of the killing – exactly four years to the date after the torture and murder of 15 of Kumar's colleagues in 2001 - cannot be ignored.

Reading out an official statement at an official briefing at Shastri Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Navtej Sarna said the acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh in New Delhi, Masud bin Momen, was summoned to South Block on Monday and was conveyed India's 'deep disappointment and regret' over the incident.

External Affairs Ministry Joint Secretary Neelam Deo had conveyed to the Bangladesh envoy that the entire incident appeared to be 'premeditated and preplanned'.

Asked what action had the Bangladesh authorities taken following the killings of the BSF men in 2001, an MEA official, on condition of anonymity, told rediff.com: "They said that their interior ministry had instituted an inquiry. Nothing has come out of it."
