The first batch of Border Security Force's floating outposts was commissioned in Mumbai on Monday.

"This is the first batch of three out of the 14 BOPs sanctioned by the Centre," BSF Director General Ajai Raj Sharma, who was the chief guest at the commissioning ceremony at Mazgaon Dock, said.

Each floating BOP, comprising 13 personnel and tehnical staff, would travel through creeks and delta regions of the country, including Sunderbans, he said.

Designed and built by the Mazgaon Dock, the three floating border outposts are: Seema Prahari Dwarka, Seema Prahari Sagar and Seema Prahari Kamakhya, Chairman and Managing Director, Mazgaon Dock, H S Kang said.

"Given the constraints under which these vessels are to be deployed, it was a challenging task for our design team," Kang said.
