BSF convoy attacked by terrorists in Kashmir, 7 injured

August 12, 2014 09:10 IST

Seven paramilitary Border Security Force troopers including an officer were injured in a militant ambush in south Kashmir’s Pampore town late on Monday.

A senior BSF officer said militants opened fire at a passing vehicle carrying troopers returning from Pahalgam after performing yatra duty. “Seven BSF troopers including an assistant commandant were injured in the attack,” the officer said. The injured were evacuated to hospital for treatment, he added.

Security forces later searched the area. The attack comes hours ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Modi is visiting Ladakh to inaugurate two power projects and also lay the foundation stone of the Leh-Srinagar transmission line.
