Braveheart Rukhsana awaits reward for killing militant

November 06, 2009 15:50 IST

Rukhsana, who shot into the limelight after killing a Lashkar-e-Tayiba militant, is still waiting for the reward for killing the militant who was carrying a cash prize of Rs 8.5 lakh on his head.

"The government has still not given them (Rukhsana and her brother Aijaz) the reward of Rs 8.5 lakh for killing LeT militant Abu Osama," All India Anti Terrorist Front Chairman M S Bitta alleged at a press conference in Chandigarh on Friday.

Also present on the occasion were Rukhsana, Aijaz, their father Noor Ahmed and mother Rashida. Rukhsana, along with her 18-year-old brother Aijaz, had overpowered the militants, who had barged into their house at Shahdra Sharief in Rajouri on September 27. She had snatched an AK-47 from one of them and fired at him, killing him on the spot.

Her uncle Wakalat Hussain was also injured in the incident. Rukhsana also reiterated her demand to the government to give her a permanent job in the paramilitary force. She has already rejected an offer by the Jammu and Kashmir police for the post of a Special Police Officer.

"I and my brother should be given permanent jobs in central forces like the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force etc," she said.

Rukhsana also demanded that a six-month army training should be imparted to the youth of the troubled state so that they were able to fight the terrorists and give a befitting reply to them.

Bitta alleged that political parties and even the state government were not ready to support Rukhsana and her family as they feared hostile action from the militants.

"If any untoward thing happens to Rukhsana or her family, the government and all political parties would be responsible for it," he said.
