PM Manmohan Singh to campaign in Bihar

November 08, 2005 12:20 IST

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address joint election meetings with Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife former chief minister Rabri Devi on Tuesday in the run up to the third phase of Bihar assembly polls.

State Congress spokesperson Kripanath Pathak said Dr Singh will address two election meetings at Saharsa and Sitamarhi and return to New Delhi by Tuesday afternoon.

This will be Dr Singh's first election campaign in Bihar.

The RJD-led Secular Democratic Front is upbeat that Manmohan Singh campaigning along with Lalu and Rabri will improve the front's prospects a few days before the third phase of assembly polls in 57 of 243 assembly constituencies scheduled for November 13.

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh and Bihar Congress president Sadanand Singh will also attend both the meetings.

Congress president and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi will address four election meetings at Araria, Benipatti, Chanpatia and Chapra on November 10.
